UNLV Softball Player - Lorenzza Marcacci speaks about her Knee Injury, recovery process and mental challenges

Knee injuries can be very common in sports. A very common knee injury is anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). It can be caused by a sudden twist in movement while running, jumping or stopping too quickly. There are ways to avoid ACL injuries by working on muscle strength, stretching, and avoiding exercise when fatigued. Although ACL injuries can be prevented, it can still. However, when an ACL injury does happen don't be discouraged! You can push through and make it to the other side.

Getting through physical therapy is very tough but speaking from experience, it can be done. Suffering an ACL tear is very heartbreaking because it takes away time from the sport. It sets a lot of progress back but that progress can be gained back after completing physical therapy. No matter how hard physical therapy gets, always remember that you can do it and remain positive. Push through the pain and remember the saying "no pain no gain!" Push through the months of recovery because if you do, you know you'll be able to get back to the sport you love and be able to gain your mobility back.

Physical therapy and an knee injury can take a huge toll on your body + mental health. Reach out to those you love and reach out to your support system because they will help make you stronger. Lean on those when you need help during your recovery especially when things get hard. Always talk to your physical therapist because they are there to help you!
